As was the case last year this years Emmy Awards ceremony will have no official live stream, as indicated by the official website. This year the 65th Emmy award show is on CBS and airs Sunday September 22nd at 8 pm EDT.
Why do I think nobody cares? First of all it’s on CBS which is easily viewed with an antenna. But beyond that I really think the the typical cord cutter is not interested in that broadcast.
The biggest group of cord cutter/cord nevers/over the top viewers these days is college age people. And what is the largest demographic of Emmy viewers? According to Nielsen and this article last year’s show did pretty poorly in the 18-49 demographic. The implication is the bulk of viewers are in the 50+ category. And even though I’m in this group I doubt the rest of my fellow cord cutters are.
If I’m wrong, and you are concerned about finding a stream for the Emmy awards let me know in the comments.
I did actually have one of my twitter followers reach out looking for a solution. But as I think about it there are just too many. Unlike some NCAA football game that not everyone is watching there will be over 10 million tuning in. So here are some possibilities:
1. Go buy an antenna.
2. Subscribe to Aereo (if you are in one of their cities).
3. Watch at a friends house.
4. Watch at a sports bar – most NFL will be done.
5. Use a foreign streaming service + proxy – probably not worth the trouble.
And by the way, we’ll be rooting for House of Cards on Netflix of course.
