An Easy Conversion
When I first started experimenting with cord cutting I was a DirecTV subscriber. One of the first steps is to buy and install an outside antenna. Since the dish type TV is already mounted on the roof and cabled into the house you can take advantage of this.
Steps to Convert DirecTV to FreeTV
- Disconnect the two coax cables coming from the dish antenna.
- Remove just the Dish/satellite antenna but leave the mounting in place.
- Install your new outside antenna on the existing mount.
- Remove the special DirecTV switch box. If you need one replace it with an inexpensive TV
splitter.

BEFORE
Note my antenna sitting ready for install.

AFTER
i flipped the aluminum arm 180 degrees to optimize antenna aim as required in my neighborhood.
