​​​​​Sometimes you just want to have what’s on your laptop appear on your TV. Not Netflix, not Hulu plus, ​​not Google TV. Just raw unadulterated internet content.​

​One such example would be live sports. There are a lot of streaming sources that might provide ​​access to games not broadcast locally. And you don’t want everyone to have to crowd around your ​​laptop to watch.​

​If you have an older TV or older PC/laptop without HDMI interfaces this can be tricky to do. My IBM ​​thinkpad has an S-video connector that in theory can be connected directly to my old RCA TV. But ​​getting it to appear on my video input was tricky.​
