Groundhog Day – My Favorite Movie

I’m going to stray from the technical nature of this blog to pay tribute to my favorite move – Groundhog Day , on Groundhog Day.

On its face, Groundhog Day appears to be a light romantic comedy. Beneath the surface it is more of what I term a “parabolical drama”. Netflix calls it an  “offbeat existential comedy”.  I can’t think of another movie that is quite the same.

In any case it is available on Netflix. And with blizzards hitting the midwest, (just like in the movie) today is a perfect day to give it a play.

Admittedly, Groundhog Day is a pretty generous offering for inclusion in the Netflix "Watch Instantly" catalog, but aside from that the offerings are pretty slim, especially when it comes to newer movies or highly acclaimed independent films. Ironically, it seems the more "in demand" a movie is, the less likely it will be available "on demand" (at least through Netflix.) Is this an issue of licensing, or a lure for the customer to pay "$2 more a month?"
Hmm… Otherwise thank you for your very informative blog.

Thanks for the comment. I agree but as I mentioned in my email back to you, expect things to improve as over the top viewing becomes more and more popular.
